Sr. Systems Engineer, Robotics AI (Seattle, WA)
Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to any of these and you’ll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics AI. We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply cutting edge advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers’ experiences in ways we can’t even imagine yet. We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.
The Systems Architecture group at Amazon Robotics AI works across disciplines to balance technical priorities and business drivers, simplify and ensure correctness of system design, and ensure efficient integration of subsystems across disparate domains. Our team focuses on concept and new product programs for complex systems that have concurrent development and tightly-coupled integration across disciplines, important safety requirements, or long hardware lead times or architectural constraints that inhibit rapid design iterations. The team adapts traditional systems engineering tools and best practices for the speed of development at Amazon. We use multidisciplinary analysis, integrative modeling, and systems engineering frameworks to simultaneously increase performance and robustness, while reducing cost, timeline, and the number of iterations required to deliver value to the customer.
Key job responsibilities
Amazon Robotics AI is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer/Architect to join a dynamic team that provides systems leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment. In this role, you will:
• Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems
• Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale
• Break down and frame problems using CONOPS, use cases, functional/physical decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams
• Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale
• Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, MATLAB, Python, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems
• Perform technical risk assessments (such as TRL, Gap Analysis, FMEDA, etc.), devise mitigation plans, and create system test strategies
• Mentor junior engineers in systems engineering best practices, and participate in hiring of new team members

Company Profile
When Amazon.com launched in 1995, it was with the mission “to be Earth’s most customer-centric company.” What does this mean? It's simple. We're a company that obsesses over our customers. Our actions, goals, projects, programs and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. In other words, we start with the customer and work backwards. When we hit on something that is really working for customers, we double-down on it with hopes to turn it into an even bigger success. However, it’s not always as clean as that. Inventing is messy, and over time, it’s certain that we’ll fail at some big bets too.
You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? Our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day — to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, innovate and invent, and focus on delighting customers.
“We continue to aspire to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, and we recognize this to be no small or easy challenge. We know there is much we can do better, and we find tremendous energy in the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.” – Jeff Bezos
